A native recording tool is a powerful way to obtain qualitative data. However, you need to define what should and shouldn’t be recorded (except text inputs and web views that are sensitive by default), which may be tedious and time-consuming. Additionally, native recording data privacy is challenged by Compose/SwiftUI applications.

Wireframe mode is Smartlook’s new way of collecting qualitative data. Put simply, every bit of information remains hidden. Essentially, you’re only recording abstract representations of an app that still provides you with the essential information for user behavior analysis. This approach not only saves time but minimizes the collection of personal data that may be subject to the requirements of GDPR or CCPA. Its unique function allows you to record Compose/SwiftUI applications and handle data safely.

Why should you switch to wireframe recordings?

  • They’re compliant by default
  • They allow you to securely record Compose and SwiftUI applications.
  • They have a minimal influence on app performance thanks to lower CPU usage

Although the native recording remains default, you can switch from native to wireframe recording by setting a different rendering mode.

This update is useful for your team members who work with session recordings: developers, product managers, UX professionals, and even your customer support team.
